How to Store Medicine
The storage period of all types of drugs has a time limit, because gradually the drug will decompose chemically due to the influence of light, air and temperature. Eventually the efficacy of the drug will decrease. Signs of drug damage are sometimes obvious, for example when a clear solution becomes cloudy and when the color of a cream is discolored or moldy. However, in the process of destruction of the drug can not be seen with the naked eye. The shape and smell of the drug have not changed, but the content of the active substance has been greatly reduced, or decomposed to form toxic substances. The decrease in the active substance can only be determined by analysis in the laboratory. According to international regulations, the level of active drug in a preparation is allowed to decrease to a maximum of 10%, more than 10% is considered too much and the drug must be discarded.
Storage rules
In order to slow down decomposition, all drugs should be stored in a cool place in their original containers and protected from moisture and light. And it should be in a place that can not be reached by children, so as not to be mistaken for candy because the shape and color are often very attractive. Certain medicines must be stored in the refrigerator and this requirement is always stated on the packaging, e.g. insulin.
